I don't understand this postcard - it is of the Parade, Leamington Spa in Warwickshire and has an advertisement for "The City Boot Stores, Ltd" in East Street, Bedminster across the whole of the reverse. This leaves no space for an address so could not be used postally .... and why a postcard of Leamington Spa ?? Ideas on a postcard please !!

I have seen other cards with the backs printed with advertisements, not necessarily related to the location on the front. I guess they might have been remaindered?
ReplyDeleteCertainly postcard publishers did this, of their own cards of course.
What I don't know is how they were used. They could just have been put through people's doors, like unaddressed home delivery items now, but that wasn't a GPO service. Or they might have been left in other retailers - say dry cleaners? I'm guessing - of course!
