Some Mobile Post Office cancels

Here are a few mobile post office cancels starting with a "MOBILE POST OFFICE / A" cancel used under Shepton Mallet in 1954 at the Mid-Somerset Agricultural Show,

The cancel used at the Frome Agricultural Show in 1957 was "MOBILE POST OFFICE 2 / B", as shown below on an uprated 46th Parliamentary Conference airmail to the USA.

The cancel used under Bristol in 1958  at the Royal Agricultural Show was "MOBILE POST OFFICE 2 / A", as shown below.

The cancel was used again in April 1960 at the Taunton Jumping Festival at Milverton, with a typed large unattributed registration etiquette.

In May 1962 a "MOBILE POST OFFICE 2 / B" cancel was used at the Bath & West Show under Taunton.

And finally the "MOBILE POST OFFICE No.3 / B" cancel was used in September 1960 at the Mid-Somerset Agricultural Show, and the "MOBILE POST OFFICE 1 / A" cancel was used in June 1966 at the Bath & West Show, both under Shepton Mallet.

Mobile Post Office at the Frome Show

 A Frome Cheese Show has been held on a Wednesday in September since 1861, with a Mobile Post Office in attendance in 1928 and in most years from 1947 to 1874.  The cover below from 1948 has a hand written unattributed registration etiquette.

In 1949 the registration etiquette is printed - the show is now just the Frome Show.

Yeovil

A couple of items associated with Yeovil, starting with a philatelic registered envelope from the Yeovil Agricultural Show in September 1952, with "MOBILE POST OFFICE / A" 24mm single ring cancels.

Secondly, here is a mis-addressed item to "Crispin School, Yeovil" rather than to Street, with a violet framed "UNKNOWN / AT YEOVIL / SOMERSET" handstamp.

Alphabetical Tour - C

Continuing the alphabetic tour of recent acquisitions, the letter C starts with Castle Cary.  First here is a "CASTLE CARY R.S.O. / SOMERSET" cancel from 1907, after the RSO terminology stopped being used by the Post Office in 1905.

I already showed this next item a few weeks ago but I thought it worth repeating in the light of the item above - a "CASTLE CARY   S.O. / SOMERSET" from 1921, after Castle Cary stopped being a S.O. and had come back under Bath in 1920.

This item has a "MOBILE POST OFFICE No. 3" cancel from August 1962 - the Mobile Post Office was at the Chard Agricultural Show.  Note that the Registration Etiquette was blank, being made up by the same Mobile Post Office cancel.

... then a "COMBE FLOREY / TAUNTON SOMERSET" double circle cancel from 1980.

... Corfe from 1905 and 1979

... Crewkerne from 1847 & 1848, with nice examples of the double arc handstamp in blue

... and finally Croscombe from 1911.

Mobile Post Office No.3

An envelope with multiple single-ring "MOBILE POST OFFICE NO.3" cancels dated 27th July 1960, sent registered (with a Chard registration etiquette).  The postage was 3d plus 1/- for the minimum registration fee to cover £10 compensation.

According to a list available to download on the British Postmark Society website, Mobile Post Office No.3 was at the Chard & District Agricultural Show from 26th to 27th July 1960.
