UDCs part 3 - Oakhill, Radstock, Shepton Beauchamp, Sion Hill, Stourton(Wilts), Wedmore, Winsford, Yatton

 Yet more UDCs, starting with Oakhill (under Bath) from November 1845.

... "RADSTOCK" from April 1846.

This example of the "SHEPTON-BEAUCHAMP" udc is currently the only example recorded.

The "SION-HILL" udc from August 1845 is currently the earliest example known.

Stourton is in Wiltshire but was issued a UDC under Bath in October 1853.

The envelope below, with a "WEDMORE" udc, was sent to the USA and has markings that indicate that it went on a British ship.

... a "WINSFORD" udc from November 1857.

... and an earlier example from July 1854, currently the earliest known usage.

And finally (alphabetically) here is a seriffed "YATTON" udc from October 1848 on a Registered Letter.  The registration fee had to be paid in cash while postage had to be paid in stamps.

Barred Numeral Cancels - Wrington, Yatton

Wrington, 13 miles SW of Bristol, was in the Bristol Fifth Clause Post from 1805.  It was issued with post office number B23.

Yatton, 14 miles WSW of Bristol, became an RSO in 1861 and was issued with post office number B21.

The following three postcards with "B21" 3HOS cancels were sent within Yatton and do not have any date markings.  Based on the KEVII stamps they cannot be any earlier than 1904.  The 1911 census indicates that the Hiam family had moved to Berkshire by then so they cannot be as late as 1911.  Eva Hiam was born c.1901 and Cecily c.1904 so it is probable that the cards date from 1904-1906.

Random (3) - Taunton TSOs, West Harptree, Winsford, Yatton

The final batch of this random walk through Somerset, starting with some modern Taunton town sub-office (TSO) self-inking datestamps from North Street and Station Road from October 2013.

Next we go to West Harptree for a rather patchy "WEST HARPTREE / BRISTOL" steel cancel from August 1907.

Then to Winsford near the border with Devon, with a registered letter bearing steel "WINSFORD / SOM" single ring cancels dated September 1921.

And we end up with a postcard from Yatton, near Bristol with a "YATTON" double ring double-arc cancel dated January 1904 (and a private violet receiving mark from the Junior Constitutional Club in London).  The postcard has a nice view of Yatton church.
