Ashill

 Following on from the previous post covering Ashill UDCs, here are a number of examples of further cancels starting with another example of the late format "ASHILL" UDC from January 1860.

The next cancel from 1932, on a Fire Insurance renewal, is an "ASHILL / ILMINSTER.SOMERSET" double circle double arc cancel ...

... and a better example from August 1947 on a postcard.

Finally here is an "ASHILL / ILMINSTER.SOMERSET" double circle double line-arc handstamp from August 1994.  The post office closed in 2002.

Some Climax rubber cancels from post offices under Ilminster

A few more sheets of Climax rubber cancels, this time from some of the post offices under Ilminster.  The first sheet has examples of two of the three cancels issued to Ashill.

 Next come a couple of sheets of cancels from Barrington.  Barrington has four types of cancel, the first of which is recorded as a proof but not yet recorded in use.

Horton had seven Climax rubber cancels (again, the first was recorded as a proof but hasn't been recorded in use).  The sheet below has examples of the last recorded in use, from 1921.

Ilton has three cancels recorded (again the first was proofed but not yet recorded in use).  Below is an example of the second cancel used, from 1912 - there are two examples below but the second is not dateable - and examples of the third type.

Finally here is an example of the second cancel for Stocklinch, unfortunately not completely dateable as the final digit of the year is not completely readable (0 or maybe 6 perhaps).

Undated Circular handstamps (UDCs) - Ashill, under Taunton 1856, 1857

The next series of posts are all about UDCs (undated circular handstamps) - these handstamps were issued to typically village Post Offices, mainly for use on outgoing mail, while larger post offices were issued with dated barred numeral cancels.

Starting at 'A', here are a couple of examples of the Ashill double-arc udc.  The UDC was issued under Taunton in September 1850.  This first example in blue is from November 1856 ...

...  the second example is from January 1857, also in blue.  It has a nice London cachet "Received open and resealed / at the General Post Office".

After the undated double-arc handstamps, an undated single ring handstamp was issued in September 1858.  Below is the only recorded example, used in March 1859, though one spelt "ASHIL" is recorded used in June 1860.
