Some Skeletons - Holford, Midford, Marston Magna, Stoke under Ham, Templecombe SO, West Harptree and Williton

A random accumulation of Skeletons, starting with a Climax rubber skeleton for Holford used on 29th May 1914.

The skeleton below from Midford used on 14th March 1906 was also a Climax rubber cancel.

The skeleton below from Marston Magna is only known used on 2nd October 1942.

... and the Stoke under Ham skeleton was also only known used on 16th February 1904.

This Templecombe S.O. skeleton was in use for about a month, from 2nd April to 3rd May 1912.

West Harptree's skeleton was in use for a month and a half from 19th July to 3rd September 1974.  As in the example below the "P" often does not print.

And finally a Williton skeleton that was in use for about a month, from 12th December 1909 to 10th January 1910.

A few Hs - Hatch Beauchamp, Henstridge, Holford, Huish-Champflower

As you may have gather from the previous posts, I'm catching up with some recent acquisitions in alphabetical order ... and I've got to Hatch Beauchamp.  The Letter Card below has "HATCH BEAUCHAMP / TAUNTON.SOMERSET" double circle double-blob cancels (not sure what the approved terminology is for these cancels) and is posted on the first day of issue of the 1½d KGVI stamp.

This next item from Henstridge also looks philatelic, being an Air Letter posted within Henstridge in September 1957.

I don't understand the postal markings on this next item from Holford to London - it has a "HOLFORD / BRIDGWATER . SOMERSET" double circle double line arc cancel dated September 1958 (aka a 'Birmingham' cancel after the first place to be issued with them) and it has a "MINEHEAD / SOMERSET" unified machine cancel dated June 1959.  I don't understand the two postmarks with just the one stamp.

And finally a Valentine envelope posted from Huish-Champflower to Corfe with a faint partial "HUISH-CHAMPFLOWER" udc as well as transit marks from Wiveliscombe, Wellington and Taunton, all dated February 1857.

UDCs - Lansdowne Bath, Cheddar, Holford

Some recent Undated Circular Handstamp acquisitions, firstly a yellow "LANSDOWNE" example from December 1854.  This handstamp is known used in Yellow, Green, Blue, Brown and Black !

Next a handstamp from "CHEDDAR" - I cannot work out which of the three Cheddar UDCs it is despite the handstamp being a clear strike.

And finally a yellow (?) "HOLFORD" UDC from June 1846.

Climax Rubber Handstamps - Bridgwater sub-offices (2)

Cossington had three "COSSINGTON / BRIDGWATER" Type Ib handstamps issued, in 1890, prior to September 1906 and prior to July 1919 (the latter two not in the Proof Books).  The example below is from September 1917 and shows some distortion so may actually be another, as yet unrecorded, handstamp.

Dodington had three "DODINGTON / BRIDGWATER" Type Ib handstamps, issued in 1893 and prior to 1911 and to 1915.  This last handstamp may actually be two very similar ones as the handstamp is known distorted in 1921 while the example below from August 1923 is in good condition.

Enmore had three "ENMORE / BRIDGWATER" Type Ib handstamps, issued in 1890, prior to 1911 (not in the Proof Books) and in 1915.  The example below is from the second handstamp and extends the known usage from 1911 to July 1914.

Holford went through cancels at a rate of knots - it had seven "HOLFORD / BRIDGWATER" Type Ib handstamps, issued in 1891, prior to June 1905, prior to June 1912, prior to December 1913, prior to June 1914, prior to May 1920 and prior to September 1924.  It also had two different "HOLFORD / BRIDGWATER" Type 3 skeleton cancels, known used in September 1913 and May-June 1914.   The example below is from May 1912.

In addition here is a previously unknown "HOLFORD / BRIDGWATER / SOMERSET" Type 2 handstamp from July 1927.
