Somerset "L"s - Langford, Langport, Long Ashton

Continuing with the alphabetical scheme, the Airgraph below was sent from Langford to the Pioneer Corps, C.M.F. [Central Mediterranean Force] in November 1943.

Moving a bit earlier, the entire below is from Langport to Ilminster and is dated February 1777 - this extends the known usage of the "LANGPORT" handstamp by a year.

Below is a postcard from Chicago to Long Ashton, with a receiving handstamp dated 27th July 1928.  I'm not sure why it would have a receiving mark ?

 

Charterhowse Hydon to Ashton 1636

The entire below was sent from Charterhowse Hydon (later Hinton Charterhouse) to [Long] Ashton on 2nd Janaury 1636 - there are no postal or rate markings.

Bristol Penny Post - Long Ashton & Brislington

Here is an entire with the No.12 Receiving House handstamp for Long Ashton.  It is dated from 6th May 1840 but was prepaid with cash so unfortunately is not a 1d black FDC !  The 1d black postage stamp was issued on the 6th May but offices away from London took some time to get them.

The next series of entires from 1830 to 1840 is for Brislington, which had the No.13 Receiving House handstamp from 1827 (No.13 was Pensford before then).

  

Even more early serif UDCs - Farrington Gurney, Hinton St. George and Long Ashton

Farrington Gurney's UDC was issued on 17th August 1841 through the Bristol office.  The handstamp is known used in black between July 1842 and March 1855, with a single example known in brown in November 1856.  The example below is from April 1847.

Long Ashton's UDC was issued in October 1843, again through the Bristol office, and is known used in black between December 1844 and November 1857, as well as in blue (July - November 1857) and brown (December 1856). The example below on a front is undated.

Hinton St. George's UDC was issued on 21st November 1843 and is known used between October 1844 and September 1851.  The example below is from February 1845.
