UDC: Worle

This is the last in a series of posts about UDCs (undated ccircular handstamps) for a while, finishing up with a couple of examples from Worle.  Worle's UDC was issued in December 1847 under Wells and is known from 15th November 1848 (this cover) ...

... to 8th December 1851 (this cover).  This cover has an added complexity in postal markings, being a letter to the USA.

Worle had a second UDC issued in March 1857.  Both the above predate that date of issue, and no examples of this second UDC have yet been spotted.

Wootton Courtenay, Worle, Wraxall

Wootton Courtenay post office was originally under Dunster RSO before transferring to Taunton in 1895. From November 1909 to June 1911 it was under Dunster again before returning to Taunton.  In 1932 it transferred to Minehead. 

These two sheets have postcards from Wootton Courtenay in 1906 and 1907.  They both have Dunster squared circle cancels which could mean that they were under Dunster at that time (at least the post went via Dunster - the accounts may have been held at Taunton).

Worle was originally in the Cross Penny Post before coming under Wells in 1845.  By 1854 it came under Weston-super-Mare, becoming a town sub-office (TSO) in 1946.  The postcard below has a skeleton cancel from August 1915.

Wraxall was in the Bristol Fifth Clause post before converting to the Penny Post.  It came under Nailsea railway sub-office from 1881 to 1895.  The post office closed in 1976 (the map on the first sheet below shows a possible location for the post office).  The postcard below has a "WRAXALL" single ring cancel from 1905.

The postcard below has a "WRAXALL / BRISTOL" 'Dulwich' cancel from 1974, with a commemorative cancel below also from 1974.
