Registered mail from Bridgwater and Eastover

The registered envelope below is to Berlin in October 1900, with oval "REGISTERED / BRIDGWATER" cancels (dated "OC1800").

And continuing on the theme of Town Sub Offices, here is a registered envelope from Eastover, a TSO of Bridgwater, to London in November 1921.

Postmarks from Bath Town Subs Offices (TSOs) - Widcombe Parade and Yomede Park

It is quite difficult to find examples of postmarks of Town Sub-Offices as they only handstamped a few types of items (eg. registered mail, PO Savings Books).  Here are a couple of examples of Bath TSOs, firstly from Widcombe Parade - a registered envelope from 1953.

This second item is from Yomede Park, part of a registered item from 1937.

UDC for Bathwick Hill, Bath in 1859

Bathwick Hill had two undated circular handstamps (udcs) issued, one in  January 1847 and a second in December 1853.  The first udc had a hyphen between "BATHWICK" and "HILL" while the scond had a point.

The example below is the first recorded example of the second udc, but it is quite possible that some of the examples recorded against the first udc should actually be of this one.

Bath letter to France via Lisbon returned by the Censor, 1941

The letter below from Bath attempting to go via Lisbon to France was returned by the Censor, along with a refund of 3½d postage because Air Mail had been paid for but not rendered.  The amount refunded was the difference between the Air Mail and the normal postage.

The reason the Censor returned the item was that it had contained unused Postage Stamps.  Permits were required to send postage stamps abroad (along with Christmas Cards, Greeting Cards, Calendars, printed matter, literature for the blind).

Bath miscellany: "No.15" & "OLD-DOWN" in the Penny Post in 1836, and unfranked Postcard in 1907.

Two items associated with Bath, firstly an entire from Hinton Blewett to London in 1836, going in the Bath Penny Post on the way to London.

And secondly an unfranked postcard from 1907 going to Burnham via Bridgwater.

"BRISTOL DELIVERY cachet on Postcard to St George Bristol

The postcard below has a straight-line "BRISTOL DELIVERY" handstamp.  It was from Stoke Fleming, near Dartmouth and addressed to Claremont House, St George, Bristol.

There were multiple "St George(s)" in the region - was the handstamp applied to misdirected mail to indicate the post should be for the Bristol "St George" ?  That might indicate that the handstamp was applied in another St George (for example in Easton in Gordano), though with the Axbridge postmark it might have been applied there ?

New "BATHAMPTON / BATH" Climax Rubber handstamp. 1914

Bathampton has five previously known Climax rubber cancels, an original "BATHAMPTON / BATH" one from 1891 (known used in 1911), a Climax skeleton cancel used in 1912, and three other cancels known in 1924, 1925-1927 and 1929-1930.

The postcard below, from 1914, has another different example, and perhaps fills the gap between 1912 and 1924.

Wellington 29mm Soft Packet Cancel, 1968

For some reason this envelope did not get cancelled with a machine cancel but instead got a 29mm single ring (soft packet) cancel, in July 1968.  The cancel is only partial, with just "WELLING" showing.
