Alphabetic Tour - W (continued) - Y

Final round of the Alphabetic Tour of Recent Acquisitions starts with Withypool, with a couple of single ring cancels from 1920 & 1925 and double circle cancels from 1980.

 

Next a couple of single ring cancels from Wookey Hole from 1908 & 1911 and  double circle cancels from 1953.

 

And finally an unfranked postcard sent from Weston-super-Mare to Yeovil with a manuscript "1" for postage due and a single ring handstamp from "YEOVIL / M.O & S.B" from 1905.

We start this batch with Templecombe RSO - Templecombe became an RSO on 3rd October 1904 and stopped being one on 1st August 1905 (when the Post Office stopped using the terminology).  Here is a Templecombe RSO cancel

... next is Thurloxton, from 1905.

... followed by a Parcel Post label from 1979 (while Bath was in the country of Avon).

... Uphill, from 1932, with a picture that perhaps show why it was called Uphill.

... and finally Upton, from 1907 (rubber Climax cancel) and 1980 (double circle).

Starting with St Audries, which had a seasonal April-September Post Office, here are items from 1953 and 1963.

Then we move on to Sampford Brett, with items from 1921, 1926 and 1960.

 

This last item from  Sampford Brett in 1960 is addressed to The Rector, with an image from the postcard above which shows The Rectory.

Next one on the Tour is Dunball from 1909.

Here we get to East Lambrook, with a Climax rubber cancel from 1915.

Filton RAF P.O. is known to have been open from 1944 to 1946.

Just for a change, for Galmington here is a Road Tax disc from 1985 and a Certificate of Posting from 1987.

This PAID meter mark from Clark, Son & Morland was sent from Glastonbury to Canada in 1943.

Alphabetical Tour - C

Continuing the alphabetic tour of recent acquisitions, the letter C starts with Castle Cary.  First here is a "CASTLE CARY R.S.O. / SOMERSET" cancel from 1907, after the RSO terminology stopped being used by the Post Office in 1905.

I already showed this next item a few weeks ago but I thought it worth repeating in the light of the item above - a "CASTLE CARY   S.O. / SOMERSET" from 1921, after Castle Cary stopped being a S.O. and had come back under Bath in 1920.

This item has a "MOBILE POST OFFICE No. 3" cancel from August 1962 - the Mobile Post Office was at the Chard Agricultural Show.  Note that the Registration Etiquette was blank, being made up by the same Mobile Post Office cancel.

... Combe Florey, first a single ring cancel from 1928

... then a "COMBE FLOREY / TAUNTON SOMERSET" double circle cancel from 1980.

... Corfe from 1905 and 1979

... Crewkerne from 1847 & 1848, with nice examples of the double arc handstamp in blue
