Next to Spaxton, west of Bridgwater for a steel "SPAXTON" single ring cancel from March 1913.

And to Stratton on the Fosse, south-west of Bath for a "STRATTON ON THE FOSSE" steel cancel dated May 1905.

Random Somerset Places - Combe Hay, Haselbury Plucknett, Ilminster

The next few posts are fairly random places in Somerset that I have acquired examples of recently, starting with Combe Hay, Bath.  Unfortunately the stamp has been removed but there is a nice violet rubber handstamp for "COMBE HAY / BATH" dated 11th July 1907.

Next we'll jump to Haselbury Plucknett with a postcard with a "HASELBURY PLUCKNETT / CREWKERNE.SOM." double circle double-arc cancel from June 1948.

And then back in time to Ilminster with an Ilminster "401" numeric obliterator and a single ring "ILMINSTER" handstamp dated April 1860.

Yeovil - "929"

An entire from Yeovil with a "929" numeric obliterator from April 1846.

The entire includes a printed advertisement (see below) setting the author up as an estate agent, as well as a manuscript letter relating to the sale of property.

Milborne Port - "885" in 1844-57 lists

Below is an entire from 1844 from Milborne Port with an "885" numeric obliterator.  This was the only type of numeric obliterator issued to Milborne Port, the post office number 885 becoming vacant in the 1874 list and assigned to Abertillery in Monmouthshire in the 1887 list.

Wellington - 1785 & 1905

A couple of items featuring Wellington, firstly an entire with a partial two-line "WELLING / TON.S" handstamp from 1785.  The postage to Bardon near Minehead was 3d for two stages.

Below is a postcard from Rockwell Green with a "ROCKWELL GREEN" steel handstamp and a "WELLINGTON / SOM / 860" 3-bar vertical oval duplex (3VOD) cancel dated 27th March 1905.  Rockwell Green had become a Money Order - Savings Bank branch in November 1893 and would have received its steel handstamp as a result.  Curiously neither the Rockwell Green nor the Wellington 3VOD cancel are in the proof books.

UDCs - Lansdowne Bath, Cheddar, Holford

Some recent Undated Circular Handstamp acquisitions, firstly a yellow "LANSDOWNE" example from December 1854.  This handstamp is known used in Yellow, Green, Blue, Brown and Black !

Next a handstamp from "CHEDDAR" - I cannot work out which of the three Cheddar UDCs it is despite the handstamp being a clear strike.

And finally a yellow (?) "HOLFORD" UDC from June 1846.

Langport & Weston-Super-Mare Skeletons

Langport used a skeleton from May to June 1909 and then from June to July 1911, followed by further usages in the 1920s.  The example below is from 1911 and brings the earliest date known forward by one day.

Weston-super-Mare first used a skeleton from late September to early November 1853.  The example below is not very clear and is in red - are other examples from this period also in red ?

Bristol Machine Cancels

Bristol had a Columbia continuous machine cancel machine from 1904; some examples from 1905 and 1906 are shown below.

I've also got an example of what I believe is a single impression machine cancel from 1905 - can anyone please tell me what it is ?
